We are committed to ensuring that our K9 teams are getting the best opportunities for development. There are so many methods and variables when it comes to training dogs for anything, but when its a skill as complex as search we as humans have to be incredibly flexible!
We have found that the best way for us to broaden our training horizons is to train with many others from this community (not to mention its a whole lot of fun to train and camp with people as passionate as we are!)
The moment one of our Handlers or trainers says 'I know everything there is to know about training search dogs' is the day that individual needs to take a good, hard look at their future in search... WE NEVER STOP LEARNING!
The Riverland Scent Dogs team is super lucky to have working relationships with teams from South Australia, Victoria and New South Wales. It's tough sometimes to catch up with all these people but from time to time we are cruising around the country, dogs in the back, music playing, the whole road trip experience!
It isn't always possible to quickly pop over to another State (as COVID19 has wonderfully demonstrated to us) so we make sure to stay in touch as best as we can. Most of us are following each other on all sorts of social media platforms and we often send/receive messages here and there saying something like... 'Hey! Any ideas on...'
The Search Dog community, although a bit loony at times, is a passionate bunch with a great deal of knowledge to share. We love working and supporting as many teams as we can - there is always something to chat about!
